The National Sleep Foundation claims that the number of sleeping hours which is recommended by experts mostly depends on the age factor. The quality of your sleep will create the level of energy you have to help you go throughout every day. It also affects your whole health condition.

Sleep disorders can be caused by various factors. The most common include modern technology and stress. Stress is one thing that stimulates the secretion of cortisol. When this stress hormone is excreted in excessive amounts, it causes discomfort, sickness and sleep disorders.

Technological devices emit light which has the ability to block the production of melatonin.

When your sleeping pattern is unhealthy, you’ll find it very hard to concentrate, you’ll be very tired, you won’t even be able to eat etc.

According to scientists, there is a connection between some health problems and sleep disorders.

Your heart will be the one to suffer the most when you sleep less than 5 hours every night. If you sleep less than 7 hours, your body might develop various health problems like diabetes or uncontrolled weight gain. Your body will be extremely thankful if you try to sleep well.

New guidelines for sleep hours

One of the best researches was done by Charles Czeisler, a professor at Harvard University, and his team. The research was done between 2004 and 2014.

They wanted to determine what the proper number of sleeping hours for every age group is. They also wanted to discover the effects on the complete health caused by insufficient sleeping.

These are the results of the research:

Newborn (0-3 months) — 14-17 hours.

Babies (4-11 months) — 12-15 hours.

Children (1-2 years) — 11-14 hours.

Preschool (3-5 years) — 10-13 hours.

School Age (6-13 years) — 9-11 hours.

Teens (14-17 years) — 8-10 hours.

Youth (18-25 years) — 7-9 hours.

Adults (26-64 years) — 7-9 hours.

Seniors (over 65 years) — 7-8 hours.

Try to sleep enough every night. Otherwise, your body and mind will suffer a lot and you’ll be ill constantly.
